The AWA Victorian Branch in collaboration with the YWP subcommittee is pleased to host its next Technical event: 2023 Wrapped: Water in a time of uncertainty. 
 

The "2023 Wrapped" event is a unique opportunity for thought leaders, experts, and professionals from the water sector to come together and explore the theme of "Water in a Time of Uncertainty." Our esteemed panelists will share their experiences and insights on leading best practices in the face of significant uncertainties in climate, policy, and the economy. This event aims to inspire and provide a platform for collective collaboration as we step into 2024 with innovative solutions for the water industry.

Dr Gillian Sparkes
Dr Gillian Sparkes AM – Commissioner for Environmental Sustainability
Dr Gillian Sparkes AM has been Victoria’s Commissioner for Environmental Sustainability since July 2014. Dr Sparkes has held senior roles in the Victorian Government environment portfolio including as Chair of the Board of Sustainability Victoria and Deputy Secretary Corporate and Business Services for the Department of Sustainability and Environment. Dr Sparkes also served two terms as a Director of South Gippsland Water and Chair of the Board Environment Committee. Dr Sparkes is an experienced non-executive director and chair. She is a Trustee of the Royal Society of Victoria, Chair Western Port Integrated Water Management Forum and a member the Monash Sustainable Development Institute Advisory Council.
Professor Rory Nathan

 

Professor Rory Nathan – University of Melbourne, Hydrology and Water Resources in Infrastructure Engineering
Professor Rory Nathan is a hydrologist with 40 years of experience largely in the consulting and public sectors. For the past eight years he has divided his time between research into the impacts of climate change on floods and the environment, private consulting, and on expert review and advisory roles for the federal government. He is a co-editor of the national guidelines on flood estimation and is currently assisting its revision to better incorporate climate change guidance. He has published almost 300 papers in referred journals and conference proceedings, and as the 2018 Munro Orator he is recognised as being one of “Australia’s most influential engineers eminent in the field of water resources”.
Tim White
Tim White – Executive Director, Utilities Regulation Advisory
Tim is the founder and Executive Director of Utilities Regulation Advisory (URA), Australia’s only firm specialising in the economic regulation of monopoly network services. Tim has over 20 years of experience providing strategic regulatory advice to network businesses (both public and private sector), economic regulators and governments around Australia and overseas. Prior to establishing URA, Tim was the Director in charge of KPMG’s national water regulation practice, as well as KPMG lead to the Victorian water sector.

Greg Finlayson - Manager, Water Treatment, GHD
Greg Finlayson is known as an innovative and creative thinker, with extensive experience in advanced water treatment and desalination. Greg has over 35 years’ experience in advanced water treatment, primarily in new and innovative membrane-based technologies such as Reverse Osmosis and Ultrafiltration.  Greg was also the was the key author for the $3billion Melbourne Desalination project feasibility study and was closely involved in the ongoing execution of the project.
