Circular Water Taskforce

Overview

The Circular Water Taskforce – a partnership between AWA and Circular Australia – brings together stakeholders from the water sector to promote the adoption of circular principles. These principles focus on the sustainable management of water resources, reducing water waste, and creating closed-loop systems for water use across industries and communities.

We work closely with the other taskforces under Circular Australia to ensure strong alignment across priorities and initiatives.

As part of this collaboration, we are focused on understanding how water circularity can be better integrated into planning and investment decisions.

New report charts a pathway for circular water markets

Accelerating Australia’s Circular Water Economy explores how Australia can unlock more value from water and the resources it carries, strengthening productivity, resilience and environmental sustainability.

Produced by Circular Australia and the Australian Water Association’s Circular Water Taskforce, in partnership with Arup and SUEZ, the report draws on desktop research, leading case studies and insights from 25 interviews with water and non-water sector professionals.

It identifies opportunities across four interconnected areas:

water reuse and recycling
nutrients, salts and metals
energy and bioproducts
components and chemicals

The report also sets out practical recommendations for government, industry and investors, outlining the policy, regulatory, investment and partnership shifts needed to accelerate circular water markets across Australia.
