Science communications, cephalopods, and blooms, Zoe Doubleday will take us through these important, current and interrelated topics in a fascinating discussion about what is happening in parts of SA's coastal waters. Following on, there will be plenty of time for expanding your network over post work drinks & nibbles thanks to our sponsor GPA Engineering.

Speaker: Dr Zoë Doubleday Marine Ecologist, University of South Australia

“Cephalopods, sci comm, and blooms”

Through the lens of my personal career journey as a university researcher and marine ecologist, I will discuss the changing culture of science communication and media engagement over the past decade, and how it has come into sharp focus with one of Australia’s worst marine ecological disasters and new type of environmental threat – right here on our doorstep.

Dr Zoë Doubleday is a marine ecologist at the University of South Australia (www.marislab.org). Her research spans ecology, animal biology, fisheries science, and geochemistry with outcomes that support conservation, sustainable seafood production, and food security. Zoë is a passionate advocate for accessible science and works regularly with radio, TV, and print media in Australia and overseas.  She is also a keynote speaker at events ranging from arts festivals, public lecture series, academic fora, and career development workshops. Zoe has received multiple awards including the 2022 Agrifood Award from the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering for her innovative research.
