SA Sundowner August 2025 - Engineers Without Borders from SA to Cambodia
In collaboration with the Engineers Without Borders Australia (EWB) SA Chapter, the SA Branch AWA Young Water Professionals (YWP) Committee invite you to learn about EWB's initiatives at our August Sundowner! Following on, there will be plenty of time for expanding your network over post work drinks & nibbles shared between EWB members and YWPs thanks to our sponsor GPA Engineering.
Topic – Engineers Without Borders from SA to Cambodia
Get an update from the EWB SA Chapter, including insights from recent events held in collaboration with EWB Cambodia. Dale Womacks will share what an ideation event is, provide details about this particular event with EWB Cambodia and why we hold ideation events, what is their impact. Jimi Metcalfe will provide details on our upcoming events and opportunities for water industry professionals to get involved with the SA Chapter.
You'll also learn about EWB's key national initiatives you can get involved with including Indigenous STEM Pathways and community projects that are connecting Australian engineers with communities that need sustainable infrastructure solutions. Jimi Metcalfe (Advisor to EWB SA Chapter | Manager, Asset Management & Performance - Aurecon)
Jimi has been involved with the EWB SA Chapter committee since 2020, previously in leadership roles and now as an advisor. He has supported the development of ideation events, cultural awareness events and helped the committee grow. Through EWB, Jimi completed a field placement with Rainwater Cambodia, worked on the Sanitation in Challenging Environments project, and served as a design summit mentor in Cambodia in 2019.
At Aurecon, Jimi is a Manager in the Asset Management team with over 10 years of experience in strategic asset management. He works with clients across water, health, and transport sectors, focusing on asset management planning, digital systems, and helping organisations improve how they manage their assets. Jimi is particularly interested in how asset management can support climate resilience and adaptation.

Dale Womacks - Engineer (Mobilisation Coordinator with EWB SA)
Dale Womacks took Mechanical Engineering in Canada and worked as a petroleum engineer in the Petroleum Industry in both Canada and Australia. During his career, he also commuted to other countries such as Iran, USA, China, Malaysia, Japan and Indonesia to help support local petroleum industries in these areas. He had the pleasure of interacting with several cultures during this employment. He is still active with teaching opportunities, including at university level and with STEM support. Dale has been involved with the Engineers without Borders since 2020, supporting various projects such as the Cambodia Water Supply Project, the Tumble Dryer Project in Vanuatu and the Pukatja Bridge Project. This has included direct conversations with people working on these projects and researching for possible solutions. He now acts as a Mobilisation Coordinator for EWB’s SA branch, helping to interact with volunteers and encourage their participation in projects that the EWB is involved with.

Sundowner events are open to anyone with an interest in the water industry, and present an opportunity to meet with other professionals, regardless of experience levels. This is a free event where you can grab your first drink (beer, wine or soft) which is on the house thanks to GPA Engineering, after that you purchase your own drinks, however, please register your attendance. Time: 5:15pm for a 5:30pm start. Event concludes at 6:30pm
