Join us to explore 'PFAS in Biosolids: Being Proactive in a Reactive Environment' —an essential webinar for water professionals, policy makers, and industry leaders seeking to navigate the complexities of PFAS management in biosolids.

This webinar will showcase case studies and practical lessons from Australia, Europe, and the US, with expert insights on operating effectively amid evolving regulations. You will gain valuable perspectives on how to proactively prepare for regulatory changes, balance the challenges of biosolids management with circular economy outcomes, and communicate effectively with the public to reduce contamination risks.

Discover what effective regulation looks like, and explore what the next decade could bring for PFAS management— and why there are reasons for optimism.

The webinar will include an opportunity to have your questions addressed by our panel of experts. Don't miss this chance to enhance your understanding, connect with sector leaders, and access strategies for managing infrastructure and implementation costs in this rapidly changing landscape.

Speakers

Hilary Hall HeadshotHilary Hall is a process engineer with expertise in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment. This experience extends beyond the treatment plant to the beneficial uses of recycled water, biosolids and waste sludges. Hilary has extensive experience in wastewater treatment plant operations and engineering consulting in both Australia and the USA. In 2024, Hilary undertook a Fellowship from the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust. Her Fellowship project was Technology and policy approaches that enhance the beneficial use of biosolids, travelling throughout Europe to investigate this topic.
During this webinar, Hilary will provide a summary of how PFAS in biosolids is currently managed in Australia, and how good regulation can support sustainable biosolids use. This is informed by her exposure to European regulation during her Churchill Fellowship.

Carol WalczykCarol Walczyk is a civil engineer with over 35 years of experience in environmental infrastructure planning, design, construction and operations. As the Director of the Municipal Water segment of Veolia‘s corporate Business Support & Performance group, she leads a team of senior technical experts supporting operations, driving innovation, spearheading growth initiatives, and facilitating business development for Veolia's global activities in drinking water, wastewater and reuse. In her previous role, she led the corporate engineering team for Veolia North America and was the driving force behind their PFAS strategy and response.

At this webinar, Carol will share her experience and lessons learned since the launch of Veolia's PFAS Action Plan in North America in 2018 through to the 34 new drinking water PFAS treatment facilities currently in service and plans for 50 to 70 more facilities by the end of the decade to address changing water quality and evolving regulations. Carol will share the agile and innovative approach taken to regulation tracking, treatment selection, procurement, construction, waste management and customer communication.

BG HeadshotBrendan Galway is a Senior Planner at Sydney Water who leads the biosolids strategy development and PFAS risk management across wastewater portfolios. He is steering enterprise-wide planning to manage evolving contaminant risks—particularly PFAS—while maintaining beneficial use pathways and preparing for future regulatory settings. He has led thermal treatment  for biosolids research and served as Sydney Water’s Lead on WaterRA’s biochar upscaling project, integrating these outputs into Sydney Water’s longer-term strategy and master planning.

During this webinar, Brendan will discuss the approach taken by a Utility in developing a biosolids strategy that aims to diversify beyond its existing markets, while navigating challenges posed by an uncertain regulatory landscape.
