NT Minister's Breakfast 2026
Water as an economic enabler for the Territory – challenges, constraints and opportunities - join us for an insightful morning of networking, hear from influential figures in the Northern Territory Water sector and enjoy breakfast while engaging with key voices in the field.
The 2026 Northern Territory Minister’s Breakfast themed, “Water as an economic enabler for the Territory – challenges, constraints and opportunities ” will include a Ministerial Address from the Hon Joshua Burgoyne, Minister for Lands, Planning and Environment; Corporate and Digital Development; Water Resources, in a facilitated discussion.
As the climate warms and competition for resources and investment intensifies, the Northern Territory faces global, regional and local challenges associated with water. Successful economic growth will only happen at the pace that reliable, climate-resilient water sources and services can be secured and managed in a sustainably way — for people, food systems, environmental values and services, our energy transition, industries such as minerals processing and the rapidly expanding digital economy.
Future new water sources for the Darwin region such as the return to service of Manton Dam and development of the Adelaide River Off-stream Water Storage (AROWS) – a project that will take over a decade - are seen by many as critical to realise the region’s future economic opportunities.
This year’s facilitated breakfast discussion aims to focus on the NT Government and water sector’s other priorities and opportunities (policy, research, technology and services) in areas such as water recycling, stewardship, efficiency, demand management and desalination that could contribute to water security and rebuilding the Territory economy.
In addition, we will discuss what is the role of water, natural water-related values such as springs and green infrastructure in restoring the Territory lifestyle including the investment required to attract and retain people to meet water management needs in the Territory, in a warming climate.
The Darwin event will consist of a hot plated breakfast and the event will livestreamed via webinar.
