ACT Water Matters Conference 2022

The ACT Water Matters Conference is the premier event on the ACT Water industry Calendar and we want you to be a part of the day!

With the conference focusing on Managing Water in an Uncertain Future we have incorporated topics for discussion that will certainly provide a robust look at how we manage in these times.

Sub-Themes
1: Governance, policy, practices & people – learning from the past
2: Being climate ready – adapting to climate change
3: Dealing with extremes – droughts, floods and fires


The Opening Address will be given by Shane Rattenbury MLA is the leader of the ACT Greens and a Member for Kurrajong. He is currently the ACT Attorney-General, Minister for Water, Energy and Emissions Reduction, Minister for Gaming, and Minister for Consumer Affairs.

 Shane was elected in 2008, and became the first Green Speaker of the ACT Legislative Assembly, and the first in any Parliament in the world representing a Green political party. Since 2012 Shane has held a number of Ministerial portfolios, including Climate Change and Sustainability, and Territory and Municipal Services, and he has led climate action agenda through multiple Assembly terms.
Prior to entering politics, Shane worked for Greenpeace International at their headquarters in Amsterdam as the global Head of Oceans Campaigning.

Our Keynote speaker is Tim Goodes - Executive Director Murray Darling Basin Authority

Tim Goodes commenced as Executive Director, Basin Plan Portfolio, Murray Darling Basin Authority in June 2020.
Prior to commencing in this role Tim was the Deputy Chief Executive of the Department of Primary Industries and Regions for the South Australian Government. He was responsible for Agriculture, Food and Wine; Regional Development; Major Program delivery; and corporate services.
From 2009-2017 Tim was the Deputy Chief Executive of the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources in South Australia. In that role he was responsible for the policy and strategy development of the department, including serving as the Basin Official for South Australia, overseeing the implementation of the Basin Plan and other major water projects.
Tim came to natural resources management following 12 years in the Justice portfolio, in Courts and the Attorney-General’s Department including time as the Sheriff of South Australia, and three years as an Executive Director in the Department of the Premier and Cabinet. He has a degree in Social Administration and a Masters in Public Policy and Administration.
