Eurofins and AWA

Eurofins joined AWA back in the 1980’s (under the company name MGT [environmental testing laboratories] which was acquired by Eurofins in 2012).

Being a member of AWA, the largest water association in the region, opens up networking, learning, and commercial opportunities for Eurofins to be able to execute growth strategies within the ANZ region. Our mission for the water industry is to contribute to a safer and healthier world by providing our clients with innovative and high-quality laboratory, research and advisory services.

Eurofins looks forward to further partnering with AWA on future events in particular raising awareness on contaminants of emerging concern within our waters.

Eurofins - background

Eurofins is a global network of testing laboratories offering independent lab testing to government authorities, regulators, and the private sector. It is part of the Eurofins Scientific Group, one of the market leaders in testing and laboratory services for Environment, Food, Genomics, Discovery Pharmacology, Forensics, Advanced Material Sciences and in support of clinical studies, as well as having an emerging global presence as a Contract Development and Manufacturing Organisation. The Group also has a rapidly developing presence in highly specialised and molecular clinical diagnostic testing and in-vitro diagnostic products.

Today, the Eurofins Group is a leading provider of testing and analytical services with:

  • an international network of 900 laboratories in over 50 countries
  • 55,000 staff
  • a portfolio of over 200,000 analytical methods
  • more than 450 million tests performed each year

Eurofins' new 8000sqm state-of-the-art laboratory located in Dandenong South, Victoria, houses the latest technology for analysing drinking water, recycled water, wastewater and biosolids samples for normal regulated parameters, all done with the NATA accreditation as well as emerging contaminants such as PFAS (per- and polyfluoro alkyl substances), PPCPs (Pharmaceutical and Personal Care Products), EDCs (Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals), 6-PPD quinone and microplastics. The Melbourne facility also offers a Field Services Team that is NATA-accredited for sampling of groundwater, trade waste, and surface waters as well as drinking water.

Since March 2020, our teams in Australia, along with dozens of other Eurofins laboratories around the globe, came together to develop and validate a suite of tests to support the fight against COVID-19. Within a few months, our Melbourne microbiology lab achieved NATA/ISO17025 accreditation for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater and environmental swabs. To-date, Eurofins is the only NATA-accredited laboratory for these tests.
