WA 2018 Water Industry Breakfast

WA 2018 Water Industry Breakfast
*** REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED*** Transitioning to a Water Smart City and Community - the Annual WA Water Industry Breakfast will be held on Tuesday 19 June 2018 in the Golden Ballroom North of the Pan Pacific Perth, 207 Adelaide Terrace. The event will be a plated breakfast with Panel discussion.

The urban form of our cities is changing. What will our future cities look like in 20 years? By 2037, the City of Perth will be larger than the size of the entire population of WA today. We want our city to be vibrant, liveable, resilient and sustainable with a supportive economy and adapted to a drying climate. We want comfortable homes, an enjoyable lifestyle, a supportive community, easy access to services and protection of our natural environment. Initiatives like METRONET will improve connectivity between suburbs and attractions in our city, and plan and fund new infrastructure to lay the groundwork for new communities and developments that are water, energy and transport smart. The land planning system is the ‘tool’ that we can use to plan and design the cities of the future, and it provides the foundation for achieving vibrant and liveable communities and places where people will want to live, work and play.

To achieve this we will need to consider a holistic approach to water and consider the many components of water in our environment and their interaction, including efficient use of ground and surface water, protecting natural waterways and pursuing opportunities for reusing as much of our ‘waste’ water as possible.

The Panel will explore the opportunities available to us in Perth to transition to a water smart city through policy settings, design and planning policy and codes, and other transformative approaches available such as champions pursuing this developmental approach.
