How Augmented Reality will transform our water future
Augmented reality (AR) is a new emerging data visualisation technology that will enable end-users to overlay data from the digital world, to augment a persons experience or performance in a real-world environment.
The technology has the ability to transform the way we build and maintain assets in the future. The ability to overlay critical asset information for off-site repairs, review new augmentations in reality or alert employees of hazards are just a few examples. The opportunities are endless, and may be the end of “cross-connected” pipes.
This technical session will explore the possibilities of the technology and the challenges in implementation, with groundings from technology leaders in the water domain.
Our speakers will present on their experience with and vision for AR/VR technology in the water industry, followed by an interactive panel discussion on how we can use these technologies to transform the Australian water industry.
Ben Sand – Co-founder, Meta
Ben co-found Meta with Meron Gribbetz in 2013, which develops AR hardware and software. Ben will share his insights on what the future holds in AR and the potential applications of the technology.
Warren Legg and Ran Virdi – Atlas Engineering
Atlas are water industry specialists who use the latest digital engineering tools and techniques to enhance collaboration and deliver more cost-effective water infrastructure. They will demonstrate how they have been using VR to facilitate more effective safety in design reviews for operational, maintenance and construction stakeholders.
Panel members include Ben Sand (Meta), Warren Legg and Ran Virdi (Atlas), and Ian Hardcastle (Jacobs), and will be moderated by Dr Michael Storey (Isle Utilities).
There will also be opportunities for hands-on experiences with some AR and VR technology from Jacobs, Sydney Water, Atlas and UTS.
