This year’s North Queensland Conference in Townsville will explore the theme of “Water in the North Driving Opportunity and Prosperity”.
Water is recognised as essential to unlocking economic opportunities and prosperity in North Queensland and the region is fortunate to be blessed with natural water features such as the Great Barrier Reef, local waterways and wetlands. However, the region faces significant challenges including climatic extremes, infrastructure provision and a shortage of skilled workers, which hamper the region's ability to unlock the benefits of these natural community assets.
With increasing recognition of the importance of water management for achieving sustainable, livable, resilient and productive communities, there is a need to learn from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, the original custodians of land and water and empower communities in the North to sustainably manage our shared water resources.
The conference deliberately seeks to provide a forum where technical learnings are celebrated and personal growth is commended with papers and presentations targeted at enhancing our industry through SHARED experiences, CONNECTED membership, and INSPIRED individuals.
