Meet our new NSW Branch Committee Member Nicole Harvey

I have always had a passion for science and animals. After completing school, I elected to combined both those passions and completed a Degree in Agriculture Science. My degree led me to discover the importance of conserving and protecting our natural resources, not only to protect the unique ecosystems we have in Australia but also to sustain our agricultural production systems.

I began my career working for the Department of Agriculture, Water and Environment as a biosecurity officer and later joined the Detection Dog program.

In 2020 I was offered the amazing opportunity to join Sydney Water and launch NSW's first water leak detection dog team. In 2022 I was able to present a case study paper at Ozwater on the dog program and in 2022 I had an amazing  experience as a water ambassador for National Water week which gave me the opportunity to work with a team to present a program for a local primary school to inspire the next generation. Joey the water leak detection dog even found a water leak at the school which lead to several kids asking me when I was retiring and how they could get my job.

I decided to join the AWA NSW branch committee this year because I believe we can all learn off each and I can also spend my days rolling around rewarding my dog on the side of the road for finding water leaks and my nights talking to a group of like-minded passionate people that want to contribute, inspire positive change and knowledge peoples contribution.
