The AWA Water Efficiency Specialist Network wishes to acknowledge the passing of one of our Network’s inaugural committee members, Andre Boerema.
Andre was a constant source of intelligent analysis, enthusiasm and generous sharing in the network. Andre made a huge contribution to the work of the Water Efficiency Specialist Network and, importantly, decades of work on water efficiency at the national level, initiating a wide range of programs across many associations and networks, working with new technologies and various regulators.
Andre had a special knack of bringing different parties to the table on difficult problems and finding efficient and fair solutions. Andre’s contribution was enthusiastic, passionate and unflagging right up to the end.
The Water Efficiency Specialist Network celebrates Andre’s contribution and mourns this great loss. Andre Boerema has been widely recognised as an icon of the Australian water sector, particularly for his tireless work in the water efficiency space.
Andre radiated an inspiring blend of leadership, technical expertise, collaboration and commitment to advancing practical water efficiency outcomes.
Over many years, Andre has contributed to the development and implementation of innovative water efficiency programs, demand management initiatives, customer engagement strategies and industry collaboration activities across multiple utilities and organisations. His work has helped strengthen industry capability and improve water efficiency practices nationally.
While Andre’s contribution to water efficiency will leave a lasting mark on the sector, those who worked alongside him will remember him just as strongly for his kindness, curiosity and willingness to bring people together. His presence will be deeply missed across the Australian water community.
