AWA CEO to step down next year

Australian Water Association (AWA) CEO Jonathan McKeown has announced he will step down from his role in May next year.

Jonathan has decided to pursue new opportunities in the commercial sector after seven fulfilling years at the Association.

AWA President Carmel Krogh said: “Jonathan joined us in 2013 with a mandate for change and a commitment to remain for at least three years.

"Instead, he will have been with us for seven years when he steps down next year. During his term as CEO, the Association has successfully implemented changes that have modernised its operations, events, publications and how we engage our members with new technology and digital platforms.

"Our member services and programs, which include International Trade and Channeling Change, have expanded in Australia and across the Asia-Pacific region with the support of members and funding from the Australian Government.

"As an organisation our culture has become more open and collaborative. We are making great strides in working more closely with other industry stakeholders. Jonathan will step down leaving the association in a strong financial position, with a team of highly professional staff (in updated office premises) and more than 400 elected volunteers more united than ever before in their support for our new 3-year strategy.

"The Board will be sorry to see Jonathan go and is pleased that he has agreed to the Board’s request to stay on until the Ozwater'20 conference next May, to allow a smooth transition for a new CEO.

"I would like to take this opportunity to formally acknowledge his leadership and outstanding commitment to both the Association and the water industry.”

Mr McKeown said: “Working for the Association has been a truly rewarding experience made so enjoyable by the shared commitment and passion of the staff, elected volunteers and members.

"All outcomes during my tenure as CEO were achieved in cooperation with the talented staff, our skilled volunteers, four dedicated Presidents and Board directors who work tirelessly for the water sector.

"In my remaining time at the Association I am looking forward to facilitating a seamless transition to the Association's next phase of development with a new CEO.”

The AWA Board will commence a search for a CEO towards end of the year.
