As a member of the Association, you have the opportunity to become a Water Ambassador and connect with schools across Australia to take part in boosting water literacy and careers, both during National Water Week and year-round.

Why be a Water Ambassador?

Water Ambassadors help promote the water sector as a rewarding career path throughout the year and especially during National Water Week. You’ll have the opportunity to showcase projects, research and innovation – and their impact on the environment, communities and our shared water future. As well as engaging a new generation in the water cycle, your professional profile is boosted as you hone your communication and public speaking skills.  

 

How to Register as a Water Ambassador

AWA members have exclusive access to the Water Ambassador Program and related National Water Week initiatives.

*Please note you will require a current Working With Children Check to be able to present at a school. More information is available here.

As a Water Ambassador, you’ll help promote the water sector as a rewarding career path and showcase the wide range of career opportunities in the industry. You’ll have the opportunity to showcase projects, research and innovation – and their impact on the environment, communities and our shared water future. As well as engaging a new generation in the water cycle, your professional profile is boosted as you hone your communication and public speaking skills. 

Our Water Ambassador Program is open to Australian Water Association (AWA) members only. We encourage all members who want to promote the water sector as a rewarding career path or share their knowledge on different topics to register.  

As a Water Ambassador, you will be able to equip students with knowledge about: 

  • Water and climate change 
  • Sustainability
  • Engagement with Asia Pacific and  Developing Nations 
  • First Nations Water Management 
  • Water in the world  
  • Careers in water  
  • Other water-related topics

Of course, you can! During the registration process, for both schools and Water Ambassadors, there is an opportunity to select from a range of topics.  You may wish to use some of the resources about the industry to include in your presentation

However, we also have an "I don't mind" option. If a school has selected this option, we encourage you to liaise with them to discuss which topic best suits their students and your area of expertise.

No, you can visit a  school whenever is suitable for you and the school.  

Schools need Water Ambassadors to visit throughout the year to align with their curriculum delivery. Please liaise with the school to find a suitable time for you both.  

You’ll present to students in a classroom, school assembly or online format.

Your application is reviewed by an AWA member of staff. Once approved, you’ll receive an automated email from nationalwaterweek@awa.asn.au with links to access your Water Ambassador listing and a list of local schools (if required), plus the next steps.

Yes, AWA can match you to a school if required. If you have a school you are already in touch with, that is also fine!
