The Australian Water Association recognises the need to support the development of future water leaders from across Asia. As such the Association has implemented a scholarship program to support Young Water Professionals (YWPs) to attend Ozwater’18 and Ozwater’19 and connect them with the Association’s YWP network. The Association received applications from over 250 Young Water Professionals from across the Indo-Pacific for the International YWP Scholarship Program at Ozwater’19. It is clear the demand for Indo-Pacific YWPs to connect with and learn from Australian YWPs is strong.
The activities delivered under this project have demonstrated the requirement for:
- Ongoing collaboration and support for YWPs from developing countries to grow the YWP network in their respective countries and increase engagement of YWPs locally on sustainable water management challenges.
- Further understanding required by YWPs around the Sustainable Development Goals and how YWPs can make a demonstrable contribution to these.
- A demand for greater engagement with AWA’s YWP Program and mentoring program and other YWP Programs and networks across the Indo-Pacific to grow the opportunities for Young Water Professional development.
- A framework and roadmap that can be developed to build on and take forward the outcomes from the Ozwater’19 YWP program.
The Association is now developing an international YWP networking group to build stronger ties between Indo-Pacific Young Water Professionals and grow professional friendships in which YWPs can openly share knowledge and learnings.
