The Australian Water Association is Australia’s biggest water network promoting sustainable water management and connecting our members through three core principles: Information, Networking and Recognition.   

Every year we host Ozwater, the largest water convention in the southern hemisphere, attracting 4,000+ attendees from across the Australian and international water sector. Ozwater prides itself on the delivery of a quality technical program that runs across three days, covering 8 streams and featuring more than 225 presentations and 300+ presenters.  

We are looking for an Event Technical Program & Publishing Manager to completely own and manage the delivery of the technical program at Ozwater, end to end. This involves working with a high-level committee of well-renowned industry experts, as well as working closely with the events and marketing teams. This also involves being responsible for presenting Ozwater content after the event in a manner that is recognised by members as valuable continuous learning, i.e. through podcasts, videos, etc.   

In addition, you will wholly manage the Association’s ‘Water e-Journal’, the premier online hub for water, science and technical paper publication in Australia and you will support the events and marketing teams on different projects and events as required.  

In your new role you will be responsible for: 

Ozwater Technical Program 

  • Developing the Ozwater Technical Program, working closely with the National Manager, Events & Marketing and the Ozwater Program Committee 
  • Managing the ‘call for papers’ and reviewing process  
  • Managing 300+ speakers pre, during and post the event including receiving full papers, presentations, registrations, bios, etc. 
  • Identifying speakers and presentations for marketing purposes  
  • Providing all data & content related to the program for both print & the onsite ‘event app’ 
  • Transferring the Ozwater Program into continuous learning content using a variety of delivery modes, including social media, podcasts, videos, and other interactive channels and changing technologies. 
Water e-Journal 

  • Managing the online e-journal platform, ‘Scholastica’ 
  • Co-ordinating stakeholders including the Editorial Committee and authors 
  • Securing a minimum of 10 technical papers per quarter, with the help of the Committee 
  • Selecting executive summaries to feature in the Association’s magazine, ‘Current’
  • Identifying new ways to present e-Journal content (e.g. video and podcasts) 

The Person 
  • At least 3 – 5 years’ experience in an event manager role 
  • Track record of success in technical and event program management across a large multi-stream event 
  • Demonstrated experience in using dedicated software for receiving abstracts, papers and reviewing 
  • Must be tech-savvy with advanced Microsoft Excel & database management skills and a thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite 
  • CMS and HTML experience for delivering and uploading online content 
  • An understanding of marketing concepts & experience in the presentation of content in different formats  
  • Confident, engaging and compelling communications skills 
  • Strong collaboration skills, loves contributing and being part of a team 
  • Excellent time management skills, self-organised, motivated and adaptable 
  • Remain calm under pressure, can prioritise and work on multiple projects 
  • Meticulous with a great eye for detail
  • A “can-do” attitude, enthusiasm and a willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done

Member Services Co-Ordinator

 The Australian Water Association is Australia’s biggest water network promoting sustainable water management and connecting our members through three core principles: Information, Networking and Recognition. Our membership base is varied and we operate nationally with an active branch network across Australia.

We are looking for an experienced an energetic Member Services Co-Ordinator to join our team to provide exceptional support to the Association’s eight branches with their membership retention drives and organisation of events, in order to deliver value to our members.

This role reports to the National Manager for Member Engagement and works really closely with our eight Branch Managers, Membership Database Officer, Events and Marketing teams and the Finance team.

If you have a passion for stakeholder engagement and communication, enjoy organising events and are a speedy and accurate administrator - this could be the perfect opportunity for you!

Your new role has two main focus areas:

Branch support

  • Co-ordinate the activities of the Branch Managers who are mostly based interstate, in order to support them with membership renewals follow-up and with their events. This includes, following up pending membership renewals and providing logistical and administrative support with events during peak periods;
  • Be recognised as the ‘go to’ person for Branch Managers to help resolve their admin issues;
  • Provide back-up support to Branch Managers while they are on leave and also be their ‘voice’ where necessary in the Sydney office.
  • Engage with committee members and volunteers. 

Membership Team & Administration

  • Provide first line assistance to Members with all of their enquiries and provide exceptional customer service to optimise their membership opportunity and value
  • Collaborate with the Database Officer to ensure all membership data is up-to-date and accurate
  • Assist the Database Officer with the membership renewal process and provide relief coverage in their absence.
  • Assist and where appropriate train new staff and/or Branch Managers on how to use the IMIS database.
  • Organise the membership team’s folders, documents etc. so that they are easy accessible by all team members.
  • Collaborate with the CEO’s office to assist with arranging CEO Luncheons with our Principal and Platinum members.

The Person
  • At least 3 – 5 years’ experience in a co-ordinator / admin support type role.
  • Marketing, communications or events experience would be well regarded.
  • Confident, engaging and compelling communications skills.
  • Strong customer service focus
  • Excellent time management skills & self-organised and adaptable.
  • Remain calm under pressure, can prioritise and work on multiple and diverse projects.
  • Meticulous and have a great eye for detail.
  • LOVES contributing and being part of a team.
  • A “can do” attitude, enthusiasm and a willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job
    done
  • Proficient in working with Microsoft office suite and CMS and CRM systems
