Welcome to 2023 from the AWA VIC President

A new year is upon us and with it comes new opportunities and challenges. The AWA VIC Committee are focused, engaged and ready to serve our purpose which is to “Inspire and drive a sustainable water future”.

We are committed to further developing existing programs and the teams have already begun planning new events which will be introduced throughout 2023. This includes our new “Inclusivity in Water” technical event series as well as many more giving our members and communities plenty of opportunities to connect. I encourage everyone to keep an eye on our AWA Source platform and e-newsletters for the latest news, trends, innovation, and events.

This year the Victorian branch celebrates our 60th Anniversary. With this, the committee is looking to plan our biggest to-date VIC annual gala and awards night later in October where we will recognise achievements from within the water sector. We look forward to celebrating with our members on what is promised to be the biggest night in water!

To that end, let us not forget those that have come before us who’ve paved the way for us over the past six decades of AWA in Victoria. And let us be reminded that that more than 60,000 years of indigenous knowledge deserves a place in modernity.

I leave you with my favourite Chinese proverb: “When you drink the water, think of the source.”
