WaterAid 2021 Winter Wonderland Ball

On Saturday 28th August, WaterAid was proud to be able to host its 2021 Winter Wonderland Ball after taking a hiatus last year for ‘2020 reasons’. The night was a huge success, with 300 guests from the water industry and beyond coming together to have a good time as well as helping raise over $85,000 for WaterAid. This will contribute towards their initiatives and advocacy of providing clean water to all around the world.

The night was full of delicious food, a wonderful atmosphere within the National Wine Centre and passionate speeches from WaterAid leaders and key supporters. It was an overall fun and relaxing night out for most of us who probably haven’t had the opportunity to do so for a long time.

There was a lot of hard work put into the lead up to the night, and it wasn’t without its difficulties; most notably being told we had to shift out of the Adelaide Oval less than a week before the planned date due to ‘some football game’ being scheduled on the same night! Luckily for WaterAid, our hard-working events manager Bronwyn Wilcox secured the gorgeous main event room in the National Wine Centre and pivoted all of the décor and evening activities in the space of six days – and all this done remotely from her locked-down home in Melbourne!

It’s almost become a cliché recently to talk about ‘these challenging times’, and what that’s meant for those of us already living comparatively comfortable lives. Extending these thoughts to those in less fortunate situations that struggle for clean water, flushing toilets and basic amenities, it’s more important now than ever that WaterAid continues to drive forward with the work they do for these communities. A gala ball with all of our industry colleagues is certainly an awesome way to spend a Saturday night, but it’s also an important opportunity for those of us who can help make a change and make that change happen.
