Rainfall across the South West of WA has declined over the past three decades. Salt water intrusion has also had a major impact on balance sheets of local government and water utilities owning and managing water infrastructure in the region. The region has experienced increasing urban growth, deteriorating water quality and reduced access to ground and surface water sources. All of these factors have driven the WA water industry's long-term strategy to meet community liveability expectations whilst providing growth opportunities and employment.
