Developing our future water professionals with a new Student Engagement Program

The Student Engagement Program is an Australian Water Association and Queensland Branch initiative that aims to assist members to complete small projects by engaging undergraduate or postgraduate degree students who need to undertake a project as part of their studies.

Many organisations have small projects/investigations which they never seem to get around to starting or finishing, because they just don’t have the time and/or resources. These projects are small in nature but nonetheless capable of producing real beneficial outcomes for your organisation as well as getting another KPI completed. These projects may involve process improvement, background information for project proposals, or innovation and research. They could be completed at little or no cost depending upon the arrangements agreed between you and the university on a project-by-project basis.

Universities encourage students to undertake “industry-based projects” as part of their curriculum but unfortunately in the case of the water industry, projects have not been forthcoming.

Australian Water Association Corporate Members can post projects and get applications from students who would love to undertake your projects. The Association has received support from several industry bodies for this new initiative and will be encouraging all universities to get involved.
