Guest Speaker

Daniel Strickland, Principal Environmental Engineer, Stantec Australia

Daniel has a broad range of expertise in coastal processes assessment, management and engineering, metocean data collection & analysis and marine environmental monitoring & assessment. He has worked on multiple projects focused on coastal vulnerability assessment, management and planning, particularly along the Western Australian coastline. Daniel has significant experience applying the State Coastal Planning Policy (SPP 2.6) and carrying out formal Coastal Hazard Risk Management and Adaptation Planning (CHRMAP) for local government.

Daniel will be talking about managing coastal inundation hazard risks which arise due to a combination of factors, such as tidal movements, storm surge effects (particularly in cyclone prone regions) and rainfall runoff.  As the sea level continues to rise, these risks can be exacerbated when land is low-lying and/or drainage networks become overwhelmed. For coastal inundation, this means increased intensity, frequency and duration of flooding events and is likely to mean that areas historically not effected by such hazards will be. Join is to learn more about the combined drivers of coastal inundation, so that we can manage these risks effectively.
