In this interactive workshop, Phil will share his professional journey and turning points that have shaped his leadership to key Indigenous representative organisations, universities, state and federal government. Drawing on his experience across natural resources and freshwater river management, water rights and allocations, Phil will explore why cultural awareness is not only a professional capability, but a leadership responsibility.
A key theme is unlocking your “Inner Champion.” Participants will be encouraged to recognise their influence, step confidently into leadership, and create positive impact within their organisations and in engagement with Aboriginal communities.

It provides a safe and respectful space for open discussion, learning, and shared responsibility, while offering an opportunity to strengthen cultural awareness, develop leadership capability, and connect with like-minded peers.
Leslie (Phil) Duncan, Beca Australia’s Principal Cultural Advisor, is a member of the Gomeroi Nation, with homelands in Moree and Terry Hie Hie, and brings over 40 years of experience working with Aboriginal communities and government. He provides high-level policy and strategic advice to Indigenous representative organisations, universities, and state and federal government agencies.
Phil is a respected leader inland and water management, with significant contributions across natural resource management, freshwater river systems, and water rights and allocations. He is deeply committed to two-way knowledge exchange and to amplifying the voices of Traditional Owners through the integration of cultural knowledge with Western scientific frameworks.
