Join us online to hear from Matthew Brannock, winner of the Best Water e-Journal Paper – in Honour of Guy Parker for 2025. Matthew will provide an overview of his award-winning research, followed by a short Q&A session.
Presentation Topic
A brine management framework for inland desalination & PRW: Detailed methodology, case studies and lessons learnt
As climate change, population growth, water scarcity and declining source water quality drive greater use of saline water sources, inland desalination and purified recycled water schemes are becoming increasingly important. But with desalination comes one of the sector’s most complex and persistent challenges: how to sustainably manage the resulting brine.
In this webinar, Matthew Brannock will share insights from his Guy Parker Award-winning paper, which presents a practical Brine Management Framework to support the development of effective, sustainable strategies for brine management. The presentation will explore how technical, economic and regulatory constraints shape decision-making, and how adaptive planning can help address uncertainty and risk.
Drawing on case studies from coal seam gas produced water, purified recycled water brine and inland desalination for drinking water supply, Matthew will discuss practical lessons learnt and the strategies available to support long-term brine disposal, beneficial use and salt management.
The presentation will be followed by a short Q&A session with questions taken by participants.
