Join us on 1 April as we welcome the Hon David Speirs and new SA Water CEO David Ryan for an indepth discussion on water security in South Australia.

The 2020 Water Security Briefing is an opportunity to hear from the Minister for Environment and Water and SA Water’s newly appointed Chief Executive on the key challenges they see for water security across South Australia.

Kaurna man Mr Jack Buckskin’s Welcome to Country will begin the morning’s briefing, and the event will include keynote speeches from:
The Hon David Speirs, Minister for Environment and Water; and
Mr David Ryan CEO, SA Water

Speeches will be followed by a moderated Q&A panel-style discussion with the Minister and Mr Ryan .

This event is an invaluable opportunity for industry to connect with the two most important roles in the state’s water sector, establishing a bond of trust and understanding around management of water in the state. For our audience of members and water sector guests, the event also offers the opportunity participate in a (moderated) conversation about key issues, as well as to gain direct insight into vision and strategic direction for the state.

This is a not-to-be-missed chance to engage with Minister Speirs and Mr Ryan on an issue of crucial importance not only in South Australia but nationally and globally.

Hon. David Speirs, Minister for Environment and Water

David Speirs was appointed South Australia’s Minister for Environment and Water in March 2018. He is also South Australia’s Cabinet Secretary. As Minister for Environment and Water, David is leading a suite of reforms and exciting policies including creating a new city national park, overseeing major coastal protection initiatives, driving ambitious eco-tourism opportunities, leading an Australian-first ban on single-use plastics and opening the state’s reservoirs for recreation. Born in Galloway, Scotland, David immigrated to South Australia with his parents in 2002.

David Ryan, Chief Executive, SA Water
David is a dynamic water industry leader, known for shaping contemporary organisational culture to deliver water services oriented around the continual improvement of customer experience. In his current role as Chief Executive of SA Water, David leads one of Australia’s largest integrated water utilities, serving more than 1.7 million customers across urban, regional and remote areas. By championing key values fostered through his background in regional Australia, such as sustainability, diversity and customer-centricity, David works to ensure water services help build and enhance communities and enable economic development. 

Prior to joining SA Water, David was Managing Director of Melbourne’s City West Water, and held executive roles at bulk water company Melbourne Water in operations and capital delivery, waterway management and customer solutions.

Moderator - Jodieann Dawe, Director, Research Development and Support, Flinders University
Jodieann has had a diverse and interesting career in executive level research management and operations spanning Higher Education, Not-for-profit organisations, private sector companies and SA Government. She is passionate about facilitating leading research that delivers real impacts to industry and community, through collaborative partnerships between researchers and end users.

Prior to joining Flinders University, Jodieann was the inaugural CEO and Executive Director of Water Research Australia and successfully led the functional transition from the Co-operative Research Centre Water Quality and Treatment (CRCWQT) to a sustainable, member-funded public company which is regarded as leading innovative research for the Australian Water industry.

Jodieann is an experienced Non-Executive Director has served as a Director on both national and global Boards, including the Australian Water Association, International Water Association, Australia and Global Water Research Coalition. She currently sits on the AWA SA Committee and the OzWater’20 Organising Committee.
