QLD Discussion Panel

QLD Discussion Panel
Save the date for the QLD branch's annual YWP hosted discussion panel, this year's topic is "Bringing our seat to the table: Moving water up the agenda in the way we plan and build our future cities"
South-East Queensland, like many urban centres throughout Australia and the World, is expected to more than double in population over the next fifty years. At the same time, it is expected that the impacts of a changing climate will place new pressures on our environment, our economy and our way of life. Navigating these future trends, shocks and impacts to both protect and enhance the liveability and vitality of our region is a constant challenge for the way we plan and provide services.

Increasingly, we are recognising the more complex system of aspects that make our region a great place to live, such as visual amenity, temperature and the quality of public spaces, and the critical contribution that water and sanitation services make.  Traditionally, planning for these services has been responsive, occurring only after other key decisions, such as land use, transport and energy have already been made.

To continue making our region a great place to live, in the face of a changing world, there is need for water to be part of the city planning conversation from the outset.
