Queensland Technical Meeting - December 2017

Queensland Technical Meeting - December 2017
Join us for QLD end of year celebratory technical meeting, presented by QLD Water Professional of the Year Col Hester.

Sewerage and the City

Most people have heard how Clem Jones sewered Brisbane in the sixties, but who were the engineers and politicians whose early work made it possible, and what took them so long? This presentation is a narrative, poured like activated sludge over a fine set of heritage photographs, that explains how the best laid plans to sewer our city went awfully wrong. It rekindles the names of those the task should have made famous but who, mostly through no fault of their own, fell short and eventually handed that honour on to Clem

Presented by 2017 Qld Water Professional of the Year Colin Hester
Colin Hester, Manager Commercial Water & Trade Waste, Queensland Urban Utilities, has thirty plus years’ direct and indirect experience in the water industry. His career began as a Cadet Chemist in 1980 with Brisbane City Council’s Department of Water Supply & Sewerage. Since 2004, Col has worked with Queensland Urban Utilities, previously Ipswich Water. Col’s proudest achievement to date has been launching the formative water recycling scheme that lead to the Western Corridor Recycled Water Scheme, a $2.5 billion scheme to recycle water from metropolitan sewage treatment plants in Ipswich and Brisbane.
