Mentoring is an effective way to develop skills via the transfer of knowledge from highly experienced members, to new graduates, and mid-career professionals.
The mentoring relationship strengthens competencies needed to enhance job performance and career prospects. It can be a formal or informal professional relationship and is based on openness, mutual trust, respect, encouragement, constructive comments and a willingness to learn.
For more experienced members interested in becoming mentors, this is an opportunity to hone your leadership skills, to give something back to the water industry by sharing your professional knowledge and experience. For younger inexperienced members, this is a chance for you to better understand your career aspirations, and network with people who can assist you in achieving or setting your goals. And for those YWPs who have been working in the water industry for a few years, but have not taken on any leadership roles, the 2018 program will encourage you to take a step towards leadership and mentor people who are new to the water industry.
Please complete a 3 minute matching questionnaire when registering for the event. Registrations close on 12th April 2018.
The date and location of the end of program celebration will be confirmed and while recommended is not compulsory.
Mentees and mentors outside of South East Queensland
The launch and final events are of course open to mentees and mentors located outside of SEQ. Please indicate in the questionnaire whether you will attend the launch event. For regional mentees and mentors separate guidance will be provided on how to start and build a mentoring relationship. In many cases mentees and mentors will not easily be able to meet and will form a distance relationship. The committee will prioritise good matches in needs (e.g. specific career goals or development interests) over matches in location. We welcome any follow up questions.
