Wastewater infrastructure assets are large-scale investments lasting several decades in the future to deliver public health improvements. Reducing the environmental footprint of wastewater treatment is significantly more challenging especially given the economic constraints of water services as a public sector. In this webinar, I will use examples from my own work and those emerging elsewhere to highlight recent scientific progress for developing technologies that can be retrofitted to existing infrastructure to improve treatment performance and recover resources from wastewater. Examples are also provided to illustrate how these resources can be processed and refined for beneficial use in the Australian context.
