Effectively leading teams can be difficult, especially when leaders need to exert influence across boundaries without much authority. YWPs can also find themselves in the ‘team leadership hot seat’ early in their careers without the tools, experience and confidence to excel.
This five week, online short course aims to equip YWPs with the knowledge and skills they need to become outstanding team leaders. The course will utilise a variety of media and interactive activities (e.g. videos, readings, online discussions and quizzes) to help you engage with the course content. The course will explore the following themes:
• An introduction to leadership in the water sector.
• An introduction to leadership development.
• An introduction to ‘self-leadership’ as the foundation for all other forms of leadership development.
• Guidance on team leadership, including fundamental concepts, tools and tips.
• Additional guidance on leading cross-boundary teams in the water sector, including virtual teams.
As a participant you won’t need to be online at the same time as others on the course, so as a busy professional you have flexibility with respect to when you participate each week. In order to complete the course, you must make time to participate fully each week and complete all assigned tasks. Please read the course outline carefully to ensure you are able to commit fully to its requirements. There is some provision to catch up if you miss a week, but this is at the course coordinator's discretion. We highly recommend completing the course in line with its schedule, so as to maximise your learning experience.
Registration for this course will end on 20 February, or at the point at which the course sells out. Places are limited, so we advise booking well in advance. One week before the course commences you will receive an email from IWC providing further course information, pre-reading and access to the online learning platform.
For more information on the course design or content, please contact the course coordinator, Dr André Taylor at the IWC (email@example.com, ph. 0438 182 709).
