Women of Water eventAround 20 ladies came together for the final WoW @The Communal in 2017 on the 24 November. We have had a consistent attendance at these bi-monthly get-togethers which have seen lots of new connections made and old ones rekindled. The success of these events is due to the incredible support we receive from “our own women of water” Australian Water Association Branch Manager Sharon James and Australian Water Association Branch President Sandra Hall – we thank you both for your passion and commitment!

We have been having a number of conversations with women across the sector around how to reach out to women in more remote locations either regionally or simply because they are the only women working in their team. Commitment to gender diversity is at an all-time high however there is still plenty of work to be done, this McKinsey research piece is worth reading, and from my own personal experiences I can totally relate to the research

We are also keen to engage with women in our sector who may not currently be Australian Water Association members or who work in the sector’s “non-technical/operations areas” eg communications, legal counsels, human resources and the like. It is all about reaching out and creating networks. If any of you have suggestions on the 4Ws “what water women want” or are keen to assist in this engagement contact Jenny.
