The issue of ageing infrastructure, taken with population growth and a changing climate will place increasing pressure on utilities around the world. Utilities are shifting towards a more integrated and holistic approach to water management, to achieve improved and best for community outcomes. Infrastructure investment in densifying urban areas can be particularly challenging due to existing spatial constraints. Service providers, such as Melbourne Water, must look for alternative approaches to capital intenisve large infrastructure solutions to meeting regulatory requirements and at the same time achieve multiple outcomes.
