Since establishment of diplomatic relations in February 1973, Australia and Vietnam have developed a substantive, positive and mutually beneficial relationship, reinforced by warm and expanding people-to-people links.

In recent years there has been a shift in Australia’s and Vietnam’s development cooperation, from a relationship based on development aid to one which strengthens its focus on trade and investment, by helping to improve the business climate and expand the scope of business opportunities for mutual benefit.

The Australian Water Association in partnership with the Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association (VWSA) and with support from the Australian and Vietnamese Governments have now commenced a series of initiatives designed to support this transition by strengthening relations and sharing of expertise and technological innovations in water. Vietwater 2015 marked the start of the Australian Water Association's and the VWSA’s programme to connect the Australian and Vietnamese water sectors.

Vietwater'15

Vietwater15 Outcome ReportVietwater 2015 marked the start of the Australian Water Association – Australian Government program to connect the Australian and Vietnamese water sectors. This program saw the largest Australian delegation to ever travel to Vietnam including 70 water professionals from the private sector, government, R&D and water utilities. The momentum established at Vietwater 2015 saw the largest Vietnamese water delegation ever travel to Australia for Ozwater’16.

The Australian delegation to Vietwater enabled dialogue on many common challenges and solutions regarding safe, secure, efficient and sustainable water management. The experiences and technologies Australia gathered during Australia’s water reform journey were found to be in high demand and applicable to the needs of the Vietnam water sector. The outcome report, available for download below, provides a brief snapshot of activities and outcomes from this delegation.
