Battery of the Nation Technical Events

The changing national electricity market (NEM) and Tasmania’s exciting renewable energy future are at the core of the Battery of the Nation initiative and were discussed in detail for Australian Water Association members at recent technical sessions in Hobart and Launceston.

Battery of the Nation is a visionary Tasmanian initiative to unlock the state’s renewable energy potential and support the NEM’s transition to renewables.
Hydro Tasmania, Entura and TasNetworks shared details about the future development pathway for the state that will see expansion in wind and hydropower (including pumped hydro) and more transmission and interconnection.

Our state’s clean, reliable and affordable energy will support a national electricity market in transition. It’s expected that in coming decades the NEM will rely less on coal and more on renewable energy sources like wind and solar.  These changes are already starting to happen, and it’s expected the 2020s will bring about rapid change.
