The annual Australian Water Association North Queensland Regional Conference was held in tropical sunny Mackay on Thursday and Friday, 20 - 21 July 2017.
Representing over 50 member organisations, around 105 delegates attended to hear 25 presentations themed around “Construction to Production, and How to Improve Efficiencies”.
The best conference paper was awarded to Michael Lawrence for his excellent presentation entitled “Health Based Targets, Risk Assessment and the Difficult Task of Communicating Future Options”.
Australian Water Association’s Senior Events Manager Katie Trevor supported Steve Tansley who ably led the conference organisation committee and chaired the conference over these 2 days.
The QLD Branch President Sandra Hall also attended the conference providing the Welcome Address and to show her support for the North Queensland membership. Special mention also needs to be made of the tremendous support and help to the Association provided by Jason Devitt and his team from the host sponsor Mackay Regional Council.
The Association's QLD Branch Manager, Sharon James and Senior Events Manager coordinated logistics over the weekend with the program running smoothly except for the last minute keynote apology from the Minister for Energy, Biofuels and Water Supply.
As per normal practice, the traditional end of first day drinks were held in the Trade Exhibition area prior to the commencement of the informal conference dinner in the heart of Mackay at Sorbello’s Italian Restaurant.
The Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre was a great venue and the quality and relevance of the presentations was excellent, living up to the high reputation Association members have come to expect from Queensland regional conference events.
Make an early diary note to plan to attend the QWater'17 Conference in November this year and the next North Queensland Regional Conference in July next year.
