National Guidelines for Residential Customers’ Water Accounts
2006
The Australian Government Department of the Environment and Heritage
led the development of the 2006 National Guidelines for Residential
Customers’ Water Accounts for the Natural Resource Management
Ministerial Council through an Expert Group. The Expert Group comprised
representatives from water utilities across Australia, water industry
representative bodies and state and territory governments.
The National Guidelines for Residential Customers’ Water
Accounts are voluntary and apply specifically to Australian water
utilities that have a customer base greater than 50,000 separately
metered water customers. However all water service providers are
encouraged to apply the Guidelines to their customer billing practices.
They provide a significant opportunity to make Australian residential
customers’ water accounts more informative particularly through
the provision of comparative consumption data. It is intended that the
provision of such comparative data will encourage more water efficient
behaviour on the part of customers.
