Melinda Burton, Department of Water
I have worked for the Department of Water for 5 years as an environmental engineer. In that time I have been involved in Salinity recovery, primarily investigating engineering options for salinity management (eg regional deep drainage schemes). More recently I have been working in the urban water management area. I am involved in planning regional and local water management for new urban development areas. This involves balancing beneficial water resource outcomes with the needs of the new urban form, whilst trying to promote the move towards Perth being a water sensitive city. Assisting in the development of urban water management policy and guidelines in consultation with the developers has been a great challenge and there are now tools that complement best practice water management and water sensitive urban developments.
